Spirit of Memphis Pep Rally: Friday, April 9th, 2010

After a long work week, I decided to grab the wife and kid, jump on a trolley and head to Handy Park for the Spirit of Memphis Pep Rally!

From the Spirit of Memphis Mission Statement: "The Spirit of Memphis is a Pep Rally for the City of Memphis that will turn the tide of the self-esteem of our citizens. The Pep Rally events and movements will help citizens become ambassadors and fall in love with their City again."

When we got to the event, we heard some great music coming from the Pepsi Pavilion, saw my friend "Robo" serving beer (yes!), as well as Mikey and Harmony.

Around 6pm, some speakers talked about their love of Memphis, including President and CEO of the Memphis Convention and Visitor's Bureau, Kevin Kane, and President of the Black Business Association of Memphis, Roby Williams.

It was a beautiful Friday night, love this weather we're having!

The event concluded with the Beale Street Brass Notes Walk of Fame dedication and induction of musicians, the late R.L. Burnside and the late Junior Kimbrough.

Here's what a Brass Note looks like once embedded in the concrete on Beale Street.

As we made our way down Beale St. to head home, we somehow ended up in the middle of the start of a 5k race! It was the "Opening Eyes to Autism 5K" and was a great race for a great cause.
