News Channel 3 Tour

A few of us made a trip to Channel 3 Drive and took a tour of the WREG studios. We got to see the cameras, the reporter's desks, the studio, the First Defense weather center and its green screen, etc. We met Omari Fleming, Austen Onek and Mike Ceide as well as the producers, videographers and staff working that afternoon. They have a much smaller staff on weekends, and even less broadcasts with the NCAA Tournament taking up most of the channel's normal news hours. They were going to have just two broadcasts that day, one of which would only air on the News Channel 3 anytime channel.

While there, we were able to check out the camera equipment, see the studio and even sit at the news desk as my nephews were newscasters for the day (er, 5 minutes). ;-)

I took over the weather center and I must say, it was a nice, sunny day with temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s. Do I know how to place an order for good weather or what? LOL Austen Onek showed us the green screen and how the green pen disappears on screen. While we were there, one of the reporters left to cover the death of Memphis legend, Charlie Vergos, founder of the Rendezvous.
